Singing to Victory: Active Music Therapy for Ovarian Cancer
Thursday May 8, 2008
One of my creative and talented patients came up to me today in the middle of chemo clinic and sang a song. It lifted everyone's spirits and I asked for permission to reproduce it on this blog. It went something like this, sung to the tune of Bye Bye Love.....
Bye bye tumor, bye bye cancer cells
Hello happiness
The tumor is going to die, the tumor is going to die....
You are a weak and ugly cell
And soon you're goin' to hell
So shrivel up and hear me yell
Cause soon we'll be ringing the bells
***repeat chorus***
Don't think you scare me
Cause you don't
You're just a bully
And a big fat dope
The chemo is killing you
You have no hope
And I will boast
Cause you're gonna be toast!!
So here was active music therapy in action. Just a song? Nope. Actually music therapy, active or passive has been shown in quite a number of different clinical trials to relieve nausea, improve quality of life and much more. Therapy of this kind can directly affect brain waves, the brain's blood circulation, and can reduce stress hormones.
Thanks Clara......
